News Report RSA Invitation Fours Bowls Tournament.
President Lillian Wells welcomed 16 teams each of 4 bowlers from 10 clubs from Whangarei north, including our own club members to join the Kaitaia RSA Bowls Club annual RSA Invitation Fours Bowls Tournament on Saturday 23 June.
After the first game of four 1 hour 15 minutes a cup of hot soup for morning tea was served, then after the 2nd game all players enjoyed a scrumptious hot hangi lunch once again cooked for us by Terry Day and Alf Blundell who have been cooking the hangi for this tournament for over ten years.
After the last 2 games and afternoon tea Vice President Tupu Campbell presented prizes donated by the FN Kaitaia RSA to the following winning teams.
1st 3 wins 25 ends 51 points: Peter Dorreen, Jean Huxtable, Paul Huxtable and Joanne Milich.
2nd: 3 wins, 25 ends 45 points: Tupu Campbell, Pete Saxby, Gina Cherry and Donny Holmes
3rd: 3 wins 22 ends 47 points: Mike Reddy, Selwyn Hargreaves, Val Jones and Doug Anderson
The three teams who each had 2 wins and a draw who also received a prize were:
Graham Neeley, Percy Blundell, Dawn King and Dave Kerr.
Bruce Panther, Reo King-Bennetts, Lillian Wells, and Don Bennetts
Barrie Johnstone, Allan Martin, Nick Blechynden and Evelyn Bradley
5 of the teams entered in this tournament consisted of players representing the different Services and were competing for the Services Trophy which is awarded to the highest scoring Services team. This year the trophy was won by the team of, Graham Neeley, Percy Blundell, Dawn King and Dave Kerr representing the Army. Special thanks for the day went to Colin May and Larry Standing for the meat, and Terry Day and Alf Blundell for cooking the Hangi, Jean, Mavis and Pat for the soup and salads and stuffing, Ian Macnee for co-ordinating the day as he has done for the last few years. Kevin the Greenkeeper, Kath raffles, the kitchen girls and Tupu for convening the tournament. Our next open tournament is any combination triples Farmlands tournament Saturday 7th July.
