The Club held the annual Men’s Singles Championship with 12 players entering. The games started at 12 o’clock due to the RSA AGM in the morning. At the end of the day’s play it was reduced to six. The next day saw some great games played by 2 lifers Monte Pawa Snr v Monte Pawa Jnr, 1 lifers Greg Taylor v Tupu Campbell, Mike Reddy v Marty Doak. In the Father Pawa Snr & Son Pawa Jnr match Snr kept up with Jnr to be 2 shots behind after 11-9 after 12 ends but Jnr went on to take a life of his father. Reddy proved too good for Doak and Taylor eliminated Campbell. Next round Reddy & Pawa Snr in a tight game being 18 all after 21 ends but Reddy scored 3 shots in the next end to see off Pawa Snr while Pawa Jnr proved too strong for Taylor. Next round Pawa Jnr v Reddy was a possible final with some great bowls played by both players but once again Pawa Jnr showed that he has not lost none of his skill after such a long break (about 6 years) from competitive bowls (NZ Rep) to win the Club Singles Championship. “Welcome back Monte” Thank you, Pat who looked after the kitchen, Selwyn & Tupu Match Controllers, Kevin for preparing the green and the club members who came into mark the games Thanks also to the good turnout of spectators who witnessed some great bowls. There is a video on our face book page Our next tournament is the Shackleton’s Unichem Chemist any combination triples. Entries to Selwyn 027 977 9637, Pat 408 3620
